Mega Liquors Cheers to You Manny Garcia

by Roxana Garcia

Born in Madrid, Spain and raised in Nicaragua, Manny Garcia is definitely a product of Miami. Before he became the buyer for Mega Liquors back in 2001 when it was founded, he has been in the Wine and Spirits retail field for 38 years total. He earned his chops working in grocery stores in the Miami area, working his way up and eventually buying for them. He now buys for 14 stores and counting…

In a little Q&A session I discovered some fun facts about one of South Florida’s top buyers.

Miami is so diverse, what do people in Miami purchase in comparison to let’s say, Miami Beach, Doral or Weston?

Miami is big into Scotch and Single Malts

Do you notice any trends in what people are buying?

People are buying high end tequilas and bourbons.

What is the most expensive bottle in your current inventory?

Pappy Van Winkle with a price tag of $13,999.

What’s the most out-of-this world request you’ve gotten….has anyone come in asking for a super expensive bottle?

Macallan 64 year old and Macallan 72 year old Scotch.

What is the most expensive wine in your current inventory:

Chat. d’Yquem Sauternes

What is your favorite part of the job?

Gaining customer’s trust.

What’s keeping you busy these days? The Doral store will be expanding into the store front next door to include a wine bar.

This new store opening will keep him quite busy until it opens in Late 2019/early 2020.
