The Prince of Spanish Guitar

Benise, “The Prince of Spanish Guitar” is bringing his axe and a stellar, award-winning show to Coral Springs Center for the Arts on October 10. As he puts it, his mission is “to push the boundaries of Nuevo Flamenco/Spanish guitar while combining the elements of dance and theater.” What this means for audiences is a journey through the art forms of Spanish Flamenco, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Samba, Parisian Waltz, exotic drumming, and even some innovative interpretations of rock classics. Experience Ft. Lauderdale’s Beginnings

History Fort Lauderdale, one of the area’s bastions of local history, is presenting a new, major permanent exhibit dubbed The Bryans of Fort Lauderdale, that tells the story of Fort Lauderdale’s origins, which opens October 1. Visitors will see the area’s birth through the eyes of the Bryan family, a pioneering clan that played a crucial role in transforming Fort Lauderdale from a sparse agricultural locale to a metropolis at the dawn of the 20th century. The era comes alive via never-before-seen archival displays, personal effects and stories, including New River developer Tom Bryan’s actual 1920s desk and chair, agricultural artifacts, a historic hotel register and family photos. The Gentleman of Salsa

One of the most renowned Latin music vocalists in the world will be performing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on October 5. Gilberto Santa Rosa, aka, The Gentleman of Salsa brings elegance and style to his hitmaking, award-winning salsa and bolero tunes. Santa Rosa is known for his energy, humor and vocal improvisations, since he first made a splash in the 1980s. During his career, he’s won a plethora of Grammys and set a record with the most number-one hits on Billboard’s Tropical Albums Chart with 12. He’s also the first salsa artist to perform at Carnegie Hall. The performance will feature his hits, along with songs from his latest album, En Buena Compañía. Les Miz Comes to Broward

The Broadway phenomenon Les Misérables is back, being staged at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from October 8 to 20. Based on a book by celebrated author Victor Hugo, the story is set in 19th-century France and portrays the resilience of the human spirit with themes of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption, set to a striking score and expressed in beloved songs. The brand-new sets are garnering raves, and are inspired by Hugo’s paintings. October Happenings at Weston Town Center

On October 20 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Weston Town Center is combining the universes of home renovations and health at the Home & Health Expo. Over 60 booths will be set up, offering a wide variety of business products and services that will offer a bounty of inspiration for creating your ideal home or putting you on the path to a healthy lifestyle. WTC’s Halloween Spooktakular happening on October 31 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.,will be a trick-or-treating bonanza for the kids, and allows them to fly their All Hallows’ Eve colors in a costume parade. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood’s Expansive Opening

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood will be opening the world’s first guitar-shaped hotel on October 24 as part of a massive $1.5 billion expansion project—and room reservations are already being accepted. A total of 1,271 luxury guestrooms and suites will be available, 638 in The Guitar Hotel, 168 in its also-brand-new counterpart, the seven-story Oasis Tower. The existing Hard Rock Tower has 465, newly renovated, rooms. This integrated resort will offer 19 dining options and 20 bars and lounges. On-site eateries include an Italian restaurant, an American live fire grill, a 24-hour deli/diner, a buffet with multiple live action stations, tropical-themed poolside dining, an artisanal coffee shop and more. A Celebration of Life and a Safe Haven

The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation: A Safe Haven for Newborns is there for young, pregnant girls and women in crisis, offering such crucial safety nets as a 24/7 multi-lingual confidential helpline, counseling, education, and adoption options. The nonprofit will be celebrating another year of service while raising funds with the 9th Annual A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala on October 19 at the InterContinental Miami. In addition to a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and dancing, guests will hear from actual Safe Haven children, who, in a yearly tradition, attend the gala with their forever parents. The kids will share what it means to them to have a family and reveal their future plans. To date, the organization has found adoptive parents for a total of 310 babies.
